Overview
Nortel Wlan Handsets 2210, 2211 and 2212 are mobile phones for workplaces with Nortel Communication Servers. Wlan Handsets reside on the wireless lan with other wireless devices using direct sequence spread spectrum (Dsss) radio technology. They operate over an 80211b wireless ethernet providing users a wireless voice over IP (VoIP) telephony extension, sending and receiving packets at up to 11 Mbps Quality of service on the wireless for IP Telephony is provided through the Wlan Telephony Manager 2245The Wlan application Gateway 2246 is an open application interface (oaI), which enables third-party software applications to communicate with the nortel Wlan Handsets

Alightweight, durable handset, specifically designed for mobile workplace use within a facility using supported nortel IP telephony call servers and 80211b access points (aPs) in a wireless lan This compact handset offers features and accessories that address the needs of a variety of businesses at an attractive price.The Wlan Handset can receive calls directly, receive transferred calls, transfer calls to other extensions and make outside and long distance calls (subject to the restrictions applied in the facility)The Wlan Handset is solely for use on-premise; they are not cellular or satellite phones. It has a standby time up to 40 hours and talk time of up to four hours.
Nortel WLAN Handset 2211
Engineered for demanding environments, the industrial-grade durable design has all the features of the nortel Wlan Handset 2210, in addition to push-to-talk (PTT) functionality, which allows broadcast communication between employees, eliminating the need for two-way radios or walkie talkiesThe PTT functionality uses IP multicast addresses, requiring that multicasting be enabled on the subnet.
To reduce the effects of broadcast and multicast traffic from devices in other network segments, the wireless lan can be placed on a separate Vlan or subnetThe handset is small enough to be highly mobile, yet rugged enough for heavy usage.

The Wlan IP Telephony Manager 2245 is required for Qos because the current Ieee 802.11b standard provides no mechanism for differentiating audio packets from data packets.The new standard being developed (80211e) will provide all the functionality of the nortel IP Telephony Manager 2245, thus ensuring high-quality voice in a mixed client environment.once 80211e is ratified, nortel will adopt the new specification.

an oaI that enables third-party software applications to communicate with nortel Wlan Handsets 2210 and 2211, is a messaging protocol interface that is open to any developer.Many applications are currently integrated with and others are continuously being developed to meet specific vertical market needs. Nortel offers a developer’s package that provides the software necessary to easily integrate and test applications.
